Career Tips from Bob Pozen

Bob Pozen, author of Extreme Productivity and Too Big To Save, shares three important career tips in a recent Fast Company article entitled "Bob Pozen, Master of Extreme Productivity, Shares His 3 Most Effective Career Tips."  One of the great things about Fast Company is that you'll always know the content by its title. :)  Here's a quick overview

  1. Career planning:  Pozen suggests "step-by-step optionality," prioritizing higher level goals for the short term, medium term, and long term, then executing on those goals by the year and by the week.
  2. Supply and demand:  like the 4S model, consider where you'd like to be (supply), and also the skills in short supply your company, industry, and the world might need (demand).  Forgetting there are two sides to the equation can make for challenges and unnecessary disappointment.
  3. Minimize your routine, maximize your time:  in short, make your routines, quick, efficient, and automatic.  Pozen shares the example of breakfast:  don't spend your energy thinking about what you'll eat for breakfast each morning.  Instead, think about what makes for a good breakfast, and do that - every day.
If you have a few moments, check out the brief article on Pozen in Fast Company.  It's a quick interesting read.

Off to breakfast,
Bryan
